Waiting in the wings, fizzing with electricity and anticipation, we watch for the stage light to flicker green. We burst onto the stage and into the lights and the show begins. This is what I’ve missed most this year.
Musicians get our buzz and energy from each other and from you, the listener. We share your excitement during a surging crescendo and feel a collective bliss in the space between the final note of an aria and your gracious applause. No note or night is quite the same. Once in full flight an orchestra cannot be paused or replayed, each musical phrase enters and leaves through a different door in a single exquisite moment. This is the irreplaceable magic of live performance. I am ecstatic to be launching our 2021 concert season with the biggest of bangs! Handel’s Rome - live and online will open with a flourish of Baroque trumpets and sackbutts and all the fanfare of the glorious Brandenburg Choir in full soaring voice. Circa performers return, two of the world’s most exciting Baroque violinists visit and we reunite with Sara Macliver – hold on to your hearts! The brilliant Brandenburg musicians will light up Australia’s stages throughout the season and make 2021 a luminous year of Baroque. The pages of this brochure are filled with the details of the six exceptional subscription concerts which you can enjoy in the glitz and the glamour of the concert hall. And, for the very first time, each mainstage concert in our 2021 season will be filmed and released as a broadcast quality production on our digital platform Brandenburg One.
